  • Coalition of Immokalee Workers, Immokalee, FL:
CIW is comprised of more than 3,000 agricultural workers who join together to confront injustices in the local farmworker community. It believes that it is not accomplished solely through services it offers but through methods of empowerment. Through this belief it achieved its greatest victory to date, winning a wage increase for tomato pickers in Florida through the historic Taco Bell boycott. CIW will use the award to upkeep a much needed community center with a goal of moving all programs to one place and providing a meeting center for farmworkers which doesn't now exist in the community.
