McDonald is a member of an expanding network of artists and celebrities - including Bruce Springsteen, Aerosmith and Darryl "DMC" McDaniels - who have banded together to fight hunger and poverty. Through its Artists Against Hunger and Poverty program, WHY and dedicated artist-activists have raised awareness and more than $7 million for more than 500 anti-poverty organizations in the U.S. In addition, McDonald was recently honored at the WHY-Chapin awards dinner with the prestigious ASCAP Harry Chapin Humanitarian Award for both his musical career and his vast charitable endeavors.

Five-time Grammy winner McDonald's distinctively soulful voice first emerged in the 1970's as a vocalist and keyboard player in Steely Dan. He joined the Doobie Brothers in 1975 and in the years that followed, McDonald and the Doobie Brothers enjoyed tremendous commercial and creative success. Their sound evolved from guitar-driven rock to a sultry, tight R&B feel, with McDonald writing and singing lead on  their signature hits "Takin' It to the Streets," "What a Fool Believes"  and "Minute by Minute."  As a solo artist, McDonald charted with I Keep Forgettin', Sweet Freedom, Yah Mo B There (with James Ingram), and On My Own (with Patti LaBelle), among others.  In the last four years, Michael has released four records and all of which have achieved platinum or gold certifications, including his interpretations of Motown classics on his appropriately titled Motown and Motown II albums.
