RIA's Model Program Profiles

In 1990, Reinvesting in America (RIA) began collecting information on innovative grassroots programs around the United States that were effectively serving the needs of their clients and communities while promoting self-reliance. The collected information was subsequently stored in a database that now houses comprehensive profiles of thousands of grassroots organizations. A select number of these organizations have been classified as model programs. One of the ongoing goals and commitments of the RIA program is to share the lessons learned from these model programs with a wider network of grassroots service providers and their supporters. Through our work and relationships with a wide range of service providers, RIA has learned that grassroots organizations often work in isolation from their peers. Those who do have an opportunity to network are often afforded little time to discuss the more conceptual nature of their common work. RIA seeks to share information on model programs as a means to inspire and educate direct service providers, advocates, government agencies, funders, and the media about the innovative work being done on the grassroots level.

Funding for the Model Program Profiles online feature
was made possible by a grant from the Karma Foundation.
