WHY Model Programs
In 1990, Reinvesting in America (RIA) began collecting information on innovative grassroots programs around the United States that were effectively serving the needs of their clients and communities while promoting self-reliance. The collected information was subsequently stored in a database that now houses comprehensive profiles of thousands of grassroots organizations. A select number of these organizations have been classified as model programs.
RIA seeks to share information on model programs as a means to inspire and educate direct service providers, advocates, government agencies, funders, and the media about the innovative work being done on the grassroots level. RIA’s model programs are grouped into eight categories:
Food and Agriculture,
Healthcare,
Child/Youth Programs,
Homelessness,
Economic Development,
Housing,
Education and Jobs.
