The Hunger and Poverty Resource Guide was developed as a special project of WHY
in conjunction with the Corporation for National Service Americorps/ VISTA. WHY's goal through The
Hunger and Poverty Resource Guide (HPRG) project is to create a technology-based resource of information
on issues relating to hunger, poverty and economic insecurity. At the time of the project's creation, nonprofit
organizations significantly lacked a presence on the web. The Resource Guide was developed to facilitate the
process of making information collected by the people working on the issues more readily accessible to grassroots
hunger and poverty organizations, the media, schools, libraries, and government officials. This project presents
nonprofits with an opportunity to publicize both the work and the resources of their organizations. Participating
organizations are required to be 501 (c) (3) not-for-profits that regularly produce original reports, studies,
books, magazines, periodicals and other publications. These resources should further the study of a broad range
of hunger and poverty issues, and should be available to the public at cost or for free.
