Do You Know A Community Leader? Leadership for a Changing World is accepting nominations
Leadership for a Changing World -- a program of the Ford Foundation in partnership with the Advocacy Institute in Washington, D.C. and the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University -- is looking for community leaders who will continue to make major contributions to social change.
Leaders must be nominated. A nominator should be someone who is well acquainted with the nominated leader or the leadership group and can attest to their qualifications. Because Leadership for a Changing World wants to recognize leaders engaged in the community, they require that the nominator be someone other than the nominee, a family member, or a board member, staff member, or consultant for the nominee’s organization.
What is Leadership for a Changing World looking for?
Leaders who are tackling tough social problems with effective, systemic solutions.
Leadership that is strategic.
Leadership that gets results.
Leadership that brings different groups together.
Leaders largely unrecognized outside their field or community, but who, if recognized, would inspire many others.
Leadership that builds leadership in their community.
Leaders from whom one can learn important lessons; and leaders who want to learn from others.
The National Hunger and Poverty Resource Guide Search for hunger and poverty organizations and publications
The National Hunger and Poverty Resource Guide (NHPRG) is a searchable database containing contact information for various hunger and poverty nonprofits in the United States as well as their publications and resources.
This project presents nonprofits with an opportunity to publicize both the work and the resources of their organizations. Participating organizations are required to be 501 (c) (3) not-for-profits that regularly produce original reports, studies, books, magazines, periodicals and other publications. These resources should further the study of a broad range of hunger and poverty issues, and should be available to the public
One Quarter of Northern Ireland Households Live in Poverty Think tank reports one-third of NI children live below poverty line
A report, entitled Bare Necessities, has been published by think tank Democratic Dialogue. The report states that more than one third of all children in Northern Ireland live below the poverty line and that poverty in Northern Ireland is worse than either the Republic of Ireland or Great Britain, which are two of the most unequal societies in Europe.
The research, directed by professors at both the University of Ulster and Queen's University, Belfast, is based on a representative sample of more than 3,100 people across Northern Ireland surveyed between October 2002 and January 2003, according to the BBC.
